Have you ever seen the Australian show H2O Just Add Water? I love that show! I’m 27, at least I think I’m 27 I never can remember how old I am. Anyways I’m a grown adult and I love this teeny bopper show. Maybe it’s because I’ve always wanted to be a mermaid or magic is cool or maybe I just think the grownup Louis is pretty cute. I don’t know, but I love it! So when I saw a trinket at the store with leather fish scales on it, I knew I would have to hack my own. I thought I would need to order some things, but I just happened the have the leather I thought I didn’t have. Yeah some people just have leather sitting around their place…and it was JUST enough to finish the project with.
It was fairly simple really; I cut out loads of leather circles, picked an item I wanted to put them on, laid them out to make sure I liked the look and got to hot gluing them.
I actually have a project in mind for the scraps!
I didn’t like how the scales ended abruptly so I cut what I had left in half and laid them over the top row. Of course that wasn’t enough so I randomly painted 5 leather fish scales gold with, wait for it: the Krylon paint pen. Yeah baby! I wanted a little more contrast at the bottom of the box so I painted the parts of the wood that were still showing in black.
This is going to be a part of our in progress command center, it will hold things like receipts instead of sitting on a pile on the bar. I want to do something darker behind it considering the leather is a very similar color to the wall behind it.
It was sooo simple and even with cutting out the scales It only took me about an hour. And that my dears is that.
If you haven’t already make sure to link up to the party I am co-hosting with Jess from Plucky’s Second Thought
Do you have anything you want to put fish scales on?
