Lonely Keys

July 4, 2014

My keys needed a friend. They were lonely with nothing but their standard issue keyring. They sat there forlorn in my handbag, they were never easy to find. They grew sadder and I grew frustrated; they were lonely and I could never find them. One day a spark went off in the middle of the night. I got up exhausted though excited, and got to work on a key decoration…or very appropriately a key”chain”. Most keychains are decorations, where is the chain? I’m kidding.

I used a scrap of leather that was about 6″ x 4″ and cut thin-ish strips (I eyeballed the strips). I left about a 1/4″ uncut at the top.

I put a bit of E6000 glue along one edge of the uncut leather. I glued the strip for the tassel loop together and placed it on the glued edge of the tassel, added a bit more glue, rolled it up and glued the end down.

I added a contrasting strip of leather around the top of the tassel for more pizzazz and finished it off with my gold Krylon paint pen…yes it’s making an appearance again.

For the chain, I stole it from one of my purses that is going to be re-fashioned in the near future.

Now my lonely keys are no more, they’re  happy, and now I am stress free…OK only when it comes to my keys am I stress free.

Oh and HAPPY 4th Of JULY!

How cool. I love the color you used. Something has to be attached to help find them in the bottom of a purse, haha.

Really pretty Heather. I am glad that your keys are not lonely anymore. With small kids I tend to wear my keys as a bracelet when running errands. This would make one pretty key bracelet.
