Organizing a Drawer

August 15, 2014

after, bathroom, before, drawer, holder, line, lining, nail, Organize, Organizing, paper, polish, pony, tail, toiletry, wrapping, Woods of Bell Trees 5Organizing a drawer: I planned to do this a long time ago, I had planned to revamp what I call the pit a couple of months ago…actually I call anything that is horrific, a pit. My sister recently asked if I had any nail polish she could borrow, I gave her a look of annoyance because the nail polish was buried in the bottom of the pit. “Do you really want to see this? It’s bad” She felt brave and we dug through what could not have possibly been a drawer, a single drawer, a small drawer. You couldn’t close it, not even an inch.
after, bathroom, before, drawer, holder, line, lining, nail, Organize, Organizing, paper, polish, pony, tail, toiletry, wrapping, Woods of Bell Trees 2When I did the shelf liner in the cabinets in my living room I did not do a before picture, I was too caught up in the moment but I promised Julie from Sum of their Stories that I would not be forgetting the befores when I did this drawer. I do not think that terribleness was quite captured, but here we go.
after, bathroom, before, drawer, holder, line, lining, nail, Organize, Organizing, paper, polish, pony, tail, toiletry, wrapping, Woods of Bell Trees 5I started by removing everything from the drawer, cleaned it and lined it with wrapping paper that I picked up from HomeGoods. For organizing all the doodads I used clear modular containers that were once used for my makeup (also from HomeGoods). The most notable item that was cleaned up were the pony tail holders: I used a caribiner to hold them and keep them tidy. Do you know how crazy those things drive me? They probably drive you mad too, so I don’t need to tell you. You may not believe this, but almost everything that started out in the drawer was put back in the drawer!

Now I just need to decide how I want to refinish the cabinets that the drawer belongs to!

I just started as a consultant with JewelScent a very fun candle company, and I will be telling you more about it next week!!!

That is always the area that seems to get the most cluttered! Thank you Connie!

Great work!! I love those blue nail polish bottles. So cute! Never heard of that brand before. (I may be out of the loop) Do you like it? I’m kinda picky about nail polish and only use OPI or Essie now because they are somewhat reasonable and actually hold up. Always up for new suggestions! (and especially looking for some non-toxic ones that don’t chip easily to use for my daughter.)

    • Reply Heather August 21, 2014 at 4:48 pm

I do like them very much…now I can’t get any brand to stick to my finger nails ??? I have tried everything, but I love it on my toes. I think it’s pretty close to comparable to Essie or even OPI, I am also VERY particular about nail polishes! They are formaldehyde, toluene and DBP free. I picked mine up at CVS for $4.79, but they have them on Milani’s site for $3.99 and free shipping with a $25 order. Thanks girl!

I love the caribener (sp) idea. That’s very smart, I always have a hard time with the little hair bands getting everywhere and then I can never find one. Thanks for sharing on Snickerdoodle Sunday, maybe this will inspire me to go clean up my bathroom drawer!

I feel like once I had my son messes were a lot harder to go back and organize. I’m always doing something for myself or that needs to be done with him not there in time slots. He’s 2 now so I am able to do a little more when he is awake, but not much! :)

    • Reply Heather August 21, 2014 at 4:33 pm

Oh, Heather – what great tips.

I’m bad about organizing a drawer and then letting it get unorganized the first time I go looking for something! :)
