Taking the Old and Making New

February 10, 2014

Ok who is ready for Mr. Bates to break bad? I am so ready for him to swing his cane around! Oof! Did you see the look in his eye at the table!? The audacity of that little snob (whatever his name is) to talk to Mrs. Hughes the way he did! Ooooh I am mad. I have been mad for the last few weeks about it all, it made me sick for days. I know, I know it’s just a show, but many of the servants are so endearing especially Anna; I hate seeing her sad. Ok enough about that! I went to Anthropologie this weekend (10 minutes before they closed) and found a couple of things I just love!

Entomology Knob

Elka Bowl

Love those? I adore them!

I finally broke down and have almost finished the office; I have a very hard time finding things to hang on the wall!!! I have a fancy bulletin board which I need, but it just isn’t quite big enough. I am in a mostly anti shopping mode…I have a new pile for donating started already, so for the most part I am not buying a lot of tchotchkes, not a lot. So I started shopping around the house. I found a fairly large canvas in the bathroom…yes a canvas in the bathroom. I knew it need to move out of the bathroom and quite frankly I didn’t really like the picture so I decided I would turn it into a bulletin board.

So out came the Annie Sloan and I gave the frame and canvas a brush down.

Since there was already a support frame that fit inside the frame I decided to keep it and give some support to the back of it with additional furring strips. Once it was all painted up and waxed down I took the canvas out and wrapped this tonal chevron fabric around it to give it a nice finish,

I just hot glued the fabric in key places. I used Annie Sloan’s Old White and used clear wax and a little dark wax.

Now for the rest of the room I just need one more thing to hang on the wall and get my Ikea pot rail hung. Oh and paint the last pot!

    I love the chevron image.

Bates definitely knows now. But I was afraid the little creep would attack Mrs Hughes.

    Very clever idea!!
I just wish I could do it myself, but I’m quite clumsy when it comes to crafting

    • Reply Heather February 11, 2014 at 6:09 pm

Oh nah, I bet you can make nice crafts you make such gorgeous cakes…well then again, my mom says the opposite to me. She says I can make pretty cakes, because I make nice crafts, but I can’t I am so terrible at making a cake look presentable. Hehehe

  • Reply cakewhiz February 11, 2014 at 6:48 pm

Awesome idea!!!! I am not too crafty but I think even I cal pull this off :)

    • Reply Heather February 11, 2014 at 9:33 pm

That happens to me all the time, I hang on to something and then I decide it’s time for it to go. As soon as it’s too late I find a use for it! Hehe I guess that’s Murphy’s Law.

Super cute! I love chalk paint and all that you can do with it. I need to remember to look for old canvas paintings at garage sales. I came over from a comment you left on my blog. Thanks!

I love that you can just paint over most canvas and make a new painting or cover it.

Thanks so much for visiting. Your board is very snazzy!

Bates has obviously figured things out. I hope he takes the guy down a peg or two but doesn’t get sent back to prison!

Oh I know, I hope he doesn’t go to prison I think that’ll do it for me and the show if he goes back.

I never thought of painting over some ugly old paintings. I’ve reused the frames but wow my office could really use a bulletin board.
